Social Justice move ‘Happyland’ – Special Showing

Hi Families,

We received the following information from the organisation Bahay Taluyan, that ran the Kidsview social justice day for the year 5/6’s earlier in the year.

We are very excited to announce that we have the rights to screen the film “Happyland”. This beautiful film features the work of Kaff-eine (a local street artist) and Emily Cheeseman (a former secretary of BTPA).   Two of BT’s youth were Junior Production Assistants for the film.  Happlyand was first shown at the Human Rights Art Festival in Melbourne in 2017 where it won the People’s Choice Award. It has since been entered in various international film festivals. It is not yet available for general showing so we are thrilled that we have been given permission for this ONE NIGHT ONLY event.

The film is set in Tondo, a rubbish dump in Manila. Bahay Tuluyan work with the children in Happyland and visit each week with the Mobile Unit. The Mobile Unit urgently needs replacing and  we are fundraising  this year for a new van so this important work can continue.

It is a wonderful opportunity to understand the situation faced by many of the children we are supporting through our involvement with Bahay Tuluyan.

Cinema Nova, 380 Lygon Street Carlton on Wednesday 22 August from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.  All proceeds from ticket sales will support Bahay Tuluyan to prevent and respond to abuse of children in the Philippines.

Tickets. Adults $22 Students $18
