Week 7 & 8

The last two weeks and been jam packed in 5/6. The year 5s have done their speeches for leadership roles in 2018 and are very excited to have buddies next year. The year 6s have had some orientation days and testings days for their new high schools, which include; Whitefriars, Luther, Aquinas, Sion, Fintina, St Kevins, Melba, Sienna, Yarra Valley Grammar, Ivanhoe Grammar and Marcelin.

The 5/6 level went to the city for an excursion on the 28th of November. They were racing around the city, going to different locations to answer questions. We had to do some challenges whilst in the city like take a crazy picture. We all had a great time exploring the city and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents who came along, we couldn’t have done it without you.

This term for inquiry we have been studying energy and doing experiments. We have put all our new found knowledge into creating an iMovie to share with the other classes.

In Maths we have been learning about chance and probability and are starting to learn about patterns. We have also been learning heaps of new maths games with Ms Dame.

In Religion we have been writing our own creeds, the creeds are about things that are important to us and how it will help us in our lives.

For three weeks we’ve had a yoga incursion, to help us relax and destress, thanks to Joe for making this possible.

The entire school is practising for the Christmas Carols which are on the 3rd December at Domeny oval at 7:00 pm. The year 3s,4s and 5s are singing ‘We Three Kings’ and ‘We Need A Little Christmas’, while the year 6s are singing ‘Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer’ and ‘Silent Night’ with their buddies.

We are all looking forward to next year, with all the opportunities; being at the top of the school or going to a new school. We want to thank all the teachers for working hard and making us feel like we belong. We hope you all have a great Christmas and a wonderful break.

Week 5 & 6

For Inquiry we have started working on our Energy experiments and have had fun with the race around Australia. 5/6 WD are currently on Tasmania, and are working hard on Fridays to make this the best trip ever!

The 5/6s have has a few incursions recently. On Wednesday the 15th of November the 5/6s had an Aboriginal and Hip hop dance incursion. Also on Thursday the 16th of November the 5/6s will have a clay art incursion.

In maths the 5/6 students are working on angles. They are looking at the different types of angles. They are also working on measuring angles using protractors and lots more.

On Wednesday the 8th of November the whole school had Twilight Sports everyone enjoyed it especially the year 6s as it was the last one. Congratulations to Austin for winning the House Spirit Award and Mullane for winning the Twilight Sports Night. Also congratulations to Francesca and Tobias for winning the year 6 race.

The year 5s have had lots of fun going on kinder visits and are very excited to have buddies next year. The year 5s have also been preparing their leadership speeches and the year 6s have had some orientation days and testings days for their new high schools.

Week 5 and 6 have been fun, entertaining and very busy for the 5/6s.

Week 3 & 4

This week in maths the 5/6s have been learning about volume and capacity with Mrs.Dame. We have been working in the teacher planning room. We were split into 4 groups and have explored different parts of volume and capacity by doing a range of activities. One of the activities was to work out how many cubic centimetres would fit into the teacher planning room. These activities have increased the 5/6s capabilities in measuring and estimating volume and capacity.

For Inquiry the 5/6s have continued to learn about energy. We have moved around to different classrooms to learn about different ways energy can be used.

On Wednesday in week 3 the whole school had Italian Day. Benedict and Cristian were the hosts for the parade. After the parade the school went off to multi-age groups where the 5/6s read out the italian poems that they had been practising. We were lucky enough to have a magician called Luigi Zucchini perform his magic show in front of us.

In week 4 the 5/6 ‘All Star’ girls went to Division hooptime. They played really well but they did not make it through to Regionals. We also played milo T20 cricket. All the 5/6s were split into teams and played cricket. Everybody had a really exciting day especially the Championship girls team who will be advancing to the next round.

The past 2 weeks have been very entertaining for the 5/6s.
